On our property you’ll find four unique spaces, each restored with careful detail to preserve its Tex-ccentricity.
The Devil’s Backbone Tavern- Texas’ oldest dive bar. Once an 1800’s stagecoach stop, our little bar started serving during the prohibition era, and hasn’t stopped yet.
The Dance Hall- True Texas dance halls are an endangered species, and we’re proud home to one. Built in the 1940’s and recently restored, this space is the perfect spot to both two-step and take your next big step.
The Sinclair Gas Station - Our restored 1940’s Sinclair gas station makes a great spot for company parties, and wedding party hangs. It hosts three bars, so you can be sure none of your guests leave with an empty tank.
The Velvet Pearl - Our 1930’s cottage sits up on a hill behind the tavern, and walking through the doors is a blast from the past. It’s a great space for wedding party hangs, photoshoots, and a quick nap before you need to rally.

How much does it Cost to Rent your Dancehall or other historic spaces for my wedding or Private Event?
Well, let’s get a few things out of the way before we start talkin’ how much. We have learned that, In the words of Todd Snider, “Life’s Too Short to Worry, and Life’s Too Long to Wait”. If you want a Wedding Venue that tends to your every need, we are not for you. If you want a party hall with stemware and QR Codes, we are NOT for You. We are a piece of Texas History and we want to host folks who understand and appreciate the experience they get here – it is priceless. But our rates are reasonable compared to modern venues that will have disappeared in five years.
So if you are interested in Renting out our Historic Dancehall or other spaces, please take the time to give us the following details, which will help us give you the appropriate rates.

How many guests are allowed to attend? Our Dancehall maximum capacity is 200, while the ancillary spaces (Cottage, Sinclair Station, Tavern) have smaller capacities ranging from 15 to 75 people.
What is your policy on holidays? Rentals are unavailable on holidays.
Can I hire my own caterer or Food Truck? Yes, you may hire your own caterer or Food Truck, but they must be completely self-contained.
Can I hire my own band? Yes, you may hire your own band. You may not, hire your own private Sound Company. You must use our Sound / Lighting Gear as well as the staff to operate it, which is an additional cost.
Is there electricity/water/other utilities available for use? Our historic building has fragile infrastructure and cannot spare or handle additional loads on electrical, septic or water well systems. We recommend generators, food trucks with Propane, etc.
What are the rules on decorating? Decorations are allowed as long as they DO NOT attach to any of the historic walls or property of the Devil’s Backbone Tavern.
Are Dogs Allowed? In the lyrics of Charlie Robison “Keep your Dogs in the Truck, til we leave” (Dogs are not allowed.)
Will you be able to HOLD a date for me? No dates can be reserved or held unless a deposit has been received.
If I cancel ahead of time, can I get a portion of or all of my deposit back? Unfortunately, we do not provide refunds. We spend time that cannot be recouped and forgo other opportunities if a cancellation is made.
